What is the function of a double-acting cylinder?

The double-acting hydraulic cylinder is a hydraulic cylinder that can input pressure oil from both sides of the piston. It is often used as the driving component of the jack. The actuator of the double-acting hydraulic cylinder is the main output device of the hydraulic motion system. Although there are differences in size, type and design structure, this part is usually the most observable part. These actuators convert hydraulic pressure into fast, controllable linear motion or force to drive the load.

A typical actuator includes a hydraulic cylinder block, a throttle valve cover, a piston, a piston rod, a seal, and the bearing surface of the piston and piston rod. Generally, it can withstand pressures within 20,000kPa (continuous pressure) for all aspects of the industry; for stirring and pressure applications, it can reach 55,000kPa. The stroke length can reach 3 meters, the diameter of the hydraulic cylinder can reach 20Cm, and there are larger sizes that can be used for other special applications.

When the piston rod flexes and stretches, the cylinder of a double-acting hydraulic cylinder generates force or movement of the liquid from either end of the piston. The seal between the outer diameter of the piston and the inner diameter of the cylinder must be able to deal with both direction and movement issues. In addition, it can also be a double-ended rod cylinder, which adds a piston rod extension movement through the rear cover of the cylinder. In a typical double-acting hydraulic cylinder, the force generated when the pistons extend is slightly greater than the force of contraction. Although the pressure received on each piston is the same, the effective area exposed to the hydraulic fluid is different, so the force is also different.

Why use double acting hydraulic cylinder?

Double-acting hydraulic cylinders are typically used in all applications where the required thrust and stroke length exceeds that of a single-acting hydraulic cylinder. Small double-acting hydraulic cylinders are also used in applications requiring two stroke positives.

Double-acting cylinders are the most commonly used type of hydraulic cylinders, providing output strokes in two directions. The industrial cylinder block also supports steering tie rods to fix the cylinder block, cylinder head and end cover.
The latest industrial double-acting hydraulic cylinder also adds sensor feedback and an electronic hydraulic servo valve, which can complete complex high-speed and displacement control. The scope of application not only includes the production of machine tools, metal processing equipment, but also can be widely used in steel actuators, nuclear power plant controls, passenger elevators, etc.
