What's the difference between tie rod clevis cylinder and welded clevis cylinder?
Tie-rods and welded clevis cylinders are used in fluid power systems, both are clevis mounting type. What's the bifference between tie rod cylinder and welded clevis cylinder?
Tie rod cylinders are held together by four or more threaded tie rod bolts that run the length of the cylinder tube. These bolts hold the base plate and handpiece together. Tie rod cylinders are usually statically sealed to prevent leakage between the cylinder and end cap interface.
From the appearance, the welded clevis cylinder does not have four tie rods, it is welded to the barrel, making it permanent and higher durability. Welded clevis cylinder are designed with each end cap welded to the barrel. Brackets and other accessories will also be welded to the cap.
Welded clevis cylinders tends to be more complicated, but offers several advantages. They are generally more compact and can usually handle higher pressures, often greater than 5,000 psi, so are often used in mobile machinery where space is at a premium. They are also more durable, so they can be used in harsh environments that require longer life cycles, such as hydraulic presses, steel mills and offshore environments. These designs are also easier to customize for each application. However, they are often more difficult to repair.
Tie-rod cylinders are usually larger in size, but are usually offered as a standard range with short lead times, making them easier to obtain. High-strength threaded steel rods are used, so most cylinders of this design are rated no higher than 3,000 psi. These designs are most commonly used in industrial plastics or machine tools.

Tie rod cylinders are usually manufactured to NFPA standards so they can be easily interchanged. They also have the advantage of being easy to remove and replace in the field using a standard wrench.
Application
Tie-rods clevis cylinders are widely used in agricultural industry, welded clevis cylinders are widely used in agricultural, trailers, metal fabricating and waste/recycling equipment. Welded clevis hydraulic cylinders are more widely used. You can choose the right hydraulic cylinder according to your needs.
